Varsity A finishes 7 of 16 at Howell

The Varsity team wrestled well on Saturday finishing in seventh place. While the team is young, the guys go after it and will improve during this season. Placing third were Zach Henderson and Dominic Rens. Placing forth were Brad Stubblefield and Jonah Zimmerman. Placing fifth was Caleb Henderson. Placing seventh were Jason Champion, Zach Gilliam and Ryan Boerson.

The Eagles defeated Rockford 37-30 and Grand Haven 35-33 in the team Regional to advance to team state. Team state will happen on Friday 2/25 at 3:15 at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek

The first day of the finals saw a lot of good matches. Winning their first round matches were Jared Zimmerman, Paul Carbone, and Jake Dean (beating a regional champ). Diaz, Jackson and Henderson will all be in action on Friday starting at 8:30!

EAGLES ARE 2ND IN THE OK RED

What a year. The Eagles went 6-1 in the OK Red Duals. Then on Saturday, we entered the final round in second trailing Rockford by 7 points. Rockford widened the gap to 28.5 points, but we held onto third by 30 points over East Kentwood. Congratulations guys on a great conference season. Hard Work really does pay off!

After going 6-1 in the conference duals this winter, the Eagles are looking forward to the conference tournament tomorrow. The wrestling will begin at 9. There should be many close matches, and team scores are sure to be close also. Come out and support your Eagles!

Cancer Benefit Match

Hudsonville Wrestlers joined with VanAndel Institute to raise over $16, 800 for cancer research. To top it off, the Eagles defeated West Ottawa 37-17. Following the Sat. tournament at Whitehall, the Varsity record stands at 21-6!!

Muskegon Dual

Holland Invitational

The wrestling team lost to Rockford and Hudson, and beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Coloma and West Ottawa. Marcos Diaz went 5-0 on the day with five pins! This takes our record to 5-3 at Christmas.

The 09-10 Season began on Wednesday night with the eagles dropping their first match by 22 points to Stevensville Lakeshore. We followed this up with a 65-12 win over Plainwell. Going undefeated for the varsity were: Jared Zimmerman, Carl Nystrom, Jake Dean, Joey Steffes, and Paul Carbone.

The JV team also wrestled great!

Individual State Finals

The Individual State finals have come to a close. Justin Zimmerman wrestled a very complete weekend, finishing second in the state. Jared Zimmerman finished in fourth place, and shows a lot of promise for the next two years. Drew Jackson started the tournament by upsetting a first seed and finished in sixth place. Paul Carbone wrestled great, but came up short having a hard route through the tournament. The Eagles are excited to have three state qualifiers returning for next season!

Four wrestlers have qualified for the individual state finals to be held at the Palace on March 12-14! They are Justin Zimmerman, who finished 1st in the regional winning in ultimate overtime. Jared Zimmerman who avenged a first round lost finishing third, Paul Carbone, who finished 4th and Drew Jackson who lost in overtime to finish 4th. They beat Three Rivers 54-16, East Grand Rapids 66-6, Hastings B (77-6) and South Haven (58-10). Going 5-0 for the eagles were: Jared Zimmerman, Justin Zimmerman, and Jake Dean. Coach Henderson was awarded the Assistant Coach of the Year for the 07-08 wrestling season. At the Michigan Wrestling Association banquet, held on Nov. 7, Coach was recognized for his accomplishment. Coach Henderson has been very instrumental in getting Hudsonville Wrestling to where it current is. Congratulations Coach!
